Abstract.

Introduction. The central role in the transformation of the National System of Training and Professional Development is assigned to teachers; their high-quality training is a key factor for success. Studies commissioned by the Ministry of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic have identified the following challenges facing modern teacher education: 1) outdated methodologies; 2) low motivation; 3) weak practice-oriented focus in training and professional development; 4) insufficient material resources. In this regard, the main goal and objectives of the transformation are: to update the structure and content – to revise various options for teacher training, taking into account the analysis of training and professional development systems and the best foreign practices.

Methodology. The methodological part of the study is based on a comprehensive approach to examining the issue of harmonizing standards in education. The work used theoretical and empirical methods that allow for a comprehensive analysis of the problem. The methodology employed provided a systematic analysis of the problem and made it possible to draw well-founded conclusions about the current state and prospects of the National system for training and professional development of teaching personnel in the Kyrgyz Republic within the framework of education transformation.

Results. The results of our analysis show that the key strategic documents emphasize the training of highly qualified personnel for the education system, which implies the implementation of programs for the continuous professional development of university teachers.

Conclusions. The large-scale transformation is aimed at improving the quality of education, creating a modern system for training and professional development of teaching staff, introducing a 12-year education model, and developing teachers’ competencies in line with the requirements of the professional standard.
