Abstract. This article presents an overview of modern pedagogical technologies used in teaching the subject “Fundamentals of Security and Defense of the Homeland” to develop patriotic values, civic responsibility, and readiness to defend the Fatherland. The relevance of this study stems from students’ low motivation for traditional learning and the need to shift from a knowledge-based paradigm to an activity-based one. Based on an analysis of 22 scientific publications, methodological recommendations, and case studies (from the Avangard and VOIN centers, and regional projects), patriotic education tools were identified and systematized: digital and immersive technologies (VR/AR simulators, drone simulators, the Avangard.Online platform), game-based and competitive activities (quests, role-playing games, and Zarnitsa), project-based and research-based activities, practice-oriented camps, and neural network generators of didactic materials. The effectiveness of these tools is demonstrated to increase when integrated into a unified pedagogical ecosystem that combines virtual training with real-world activities. Key barriers were identified: staffing shortages, a weak material and technical base, and a lack of teaching materials. The study concluded that systematic teacher training, updating school infrastructure, and developing comprehensive methodological recommendations for the sustainable development of patriotic values are essential.
